Create Your Own Assistive Technology

presented by 505access

A FREE workshop sponsored by

The Arc Down Syndrome New Mexico Fund

Frustrated with expensive and “one-size-fits-all” assistive technology? Today, there are affordable and customizable solutions available thanks to the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and Maker movements. This workshop will provide attendees with a hands-on experience in customizing their own assistive technology beyond devices that are commercially available. Attendees will learn how to adapt existing devices to best suit the needs of an individual’s unique abilities. Using commonly available items, attendees will make several useful “low tech” assistive technologies. Additional “low tech” and “high tech” accessible technologies will be demonstrated to show the possibilities for people with different needs and abilities.

Limited Seating available. Preference to Persons with Down Syndrome or Family of Persons with Down Syndrome; Open to Others as Space Permits
